The anti-fibrotic agent SMP-534 attenuates bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in hamsters.

table border="0" width="100%"trtd align="left"/td/tr/table pbThe anti-fibrotic agent SMP-534 attenuates bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in hamsters./b/p pBiomed Res. 2009;30(3):177-182/p pAuthors: Tsujimura T, Ono-Kishino M, Nagamine J, Sugaru E, Tokunaga T, Kitoh M, Nagata R, Nakagawa T, Taiji M/p pPulmonary fibrosis is a progressive and lethal lung disease characterized by accumulation of ECM and loss of pulmonary function. However, no cure exists for this disease, and current treatments often fail to slow its progression or relieve its symptoms. We have previously reported that the anti-fibrotic agent SMP-534 has beneficial effects on renal fibrosis in animal model of nephropathy. In this study, we examined whether SMP-534 has beneficial effects on pulmonary fibrosis in bleomycin-treated hamsters. Treatment with SMP-534 [low dose (70 mg/kg) or high dose (110 mg/kg)] counteracted inhibition of body weight increase induced by bleomycin. In addition, SMP-534 significantly inhibited bleomycin-induced increase in lung hydroxyproline level, an index of collagen formation. Moreover, SMP-534 significantly ameliorated histological pulmonary fibrotic changes induced by bleomycin. The results of this study indicate that the anti-fibrotic agent SMP-534 may offer a new therapeutic option for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis./p pPMID: 19574719 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]/p

Homeopathy At Risk Of Being Lost In Translation

Homeopathy risks being subsumed by modern medicine, argues a historian of science. Not only does this means that homeopathy's heroes have become mere footnotes in history, but it could limit homeopathy's potential to contribute to the treatment of today's pressing medical problems, she says.

the Winter Solstice and qigong

Hi,

December 21st is the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. The Sun is at 270 degree on the ecliptic and the dipper is pointing at zi (north) direction.

The 3-4 days before and after the Winter Solstice are characterized with very poweful pozitive energy in Nature. This is a good time for receiving energy from Nature, important time for more meditation and relaxation.
